Colleges Week 2020 – Activate Learning at the centre of growing and supporting individual sectors

As part of College Week 2020, Activate Learning are celebrating a different theme each day. Today, we look at how all of our colleges have been at the centre of growing and supporting individual sectors.

We’re so proud of the variety of diverse industry sectors we get to train our students in, as well as the expertise of our teachers and the local and national businesses we often work alongside.

At Activate Learning, our career pathways offer students unique learning experiences with industry-standard equipment and diverse work opportunities.

Many of our students train onsite in hair and beauty salons, construction centres, creative workshops, hospitality and catering kitchens and healthcare suites, to name a few.

Here are some examples of the variety of sectors we work in and the fantastic industry expertise we offer at Activate Learning:

Our Care Skills Training Centres and work with the NHS

Across our Guildford, Oxford and Reading campuses, we offer hospital wards, fully-equipped home care rooms, emergency care centres, and fully immersive, 3D, VR learning spaces, all using state of the art IT monitoring and diagnostic equipment.

Our Care Skills Training Centres at Guildford College, City of Oxford College and Reading College provide acute clinical and residential care facilities for simulated teaching and learning.

These state-of-the-art facilities mirror a real-life hospital ward and care home, giving students an enhanced learning experience, which is tailored to their educational and training needs, preparing them for work in the healthcare sector.

As well as using the facilities for inhouse learning programmes, Activate Learning also help its local communities to meet the training and development needs of local health care organisations, schools and colleges.

In addition to this, Activate Learning run industry placements within the NHS with five different trusts. This allows Level 3 health and social Care students to spend two days per week over the second year of their course within a hospital placement. These placements included working within A&E, theatres, outpatients, rheumatology and cancer care departments.
