Mechatronics Maintenance Technicians ensure that plant and equipment perform to the required standard to facilitate production targets regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost within High Value Manufacturing environments. Typically the work would cover a broad range of activities include installation, testing, fault finding and the on-going planned maintenance of complex automated equipment. This requires the application of a complex blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours across the electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems disciplines.

How you'll learn and be assessed
You will attend City of Oxford College Technology Campus or Reading College two days a week in your first year and one day a week in your second and third years, based on 36 days delivery during an academic year.
Each session will be 7 hours of instruction and practice, covering the Knowledge and Skills required by the apprenticeship standard. Additional sessions may be run over college closure periods to ensure you are meeting the course requirements and progressing as expected.
At least every 10 to 12 weeks, you will meet with your Activate Apprenticeships on-programme assessor to review and record your progress against the apprenticeship requirements. At these reviews, evidence will be discussed and recorded by you, the apprentice.
You will be assessed through modular units and course assessments and assignments.
The end point assessment offers an independent assessment of your development and competence against the Knowledge, skills & Behaviour using the following methods:
- An Occupational Competence Validation Interview (Viva) drawing from a portfolio of evidence of occupational competence
- Professional competence assessment undertaken by independent assessor(s)
- Final employer endorsement of occupational and professional competence and overall completion of the apprenticeship
Progression
Progression from this apprenticeship is expected to be onto an Higher Level Apprenticeship (Level 4) or HNC/ HND.
An engineering apprenticeship can lead to a rewarding career in a variety of roles in the engineering industry. You may choose to progress with your employer, change jobs or study a higher-level apprenticeship.
Entry requirements
You need to be employed in an Engineering Technician role, hold a relevant level 2 (GCSE 4 – 9) Maths, Science and English qualification, or be working at towards a level 2 on Initial assessment.

The minimum duration for this apprenticeship is 42 months.
