This is an ideal programme if you wish to learn more about media production and are interested in making and studying through a practical approach.

You will develop skills in video, audio and photography, whilst considering media areas such as film, television, sound, and pre- and post-production.

You will cover the foundation skills needed for developing, researching, making and evaluating a range of different types of media. You will also develop a portfolio that showcases your knowledge and skills.

You’ll be taught by industry trained, expert practitioners in specialist buildings housing a variety of professional facilities, including:

  • Full HD TV studio, with green screen
  • Wi-Fi enabled campus
  • Expert teachers with industry experience
  • Visits from guest lectures from industry practitioners
  • Various opportunities for industry relevant work experience.

Each year, our students also have the opportunity to take part in our End of Year Festival to showcase their work.

Guildford College has chosen to deliver UAL Awarding Body qualifications, due to their focus on the creative arts. At the end of this two-year programme, you will achieve a UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology, which is equivalent to three A Levels.

The Creative Media Production and Technology route will focus on you developing industry-standard production processes, as well as technical and creative skills. You will learn how to plan, film and edit a range of productions. This could include TV adverts, music videos, film trailers, documentaries, short films, campaign videos, studio production, etc.

You’ll be introduced to a variety of pre-production, production, and post-production skills and utilise our industry-standard filming and recording equipment. When you complete this programme, you’ll be prepared, confident and highly trained in Adobe Premiere and the use of professional equipment.

Our highly experienced tutors will give you an overview of the TV and Film industries and build the skills you need to work confidently as part of those industries. This will involve study of professionally produced media products (films, TV shows, adverts, music videos, etc.) and you and your peers’ own audio/visual productions.

The programme consists of different units that focus on pre- and post-production techniques designed to prepare you for the creative media professional.

In the first year of this course, you will study for the Diploma. Once that Diploma is successfully achieved, you will be invited to continue on to complete the full Extended Diploma in the second year of the course.

You’ll explore, develop and test your creativity through stimulating and demanding practical exploration.

The course also incorporates relevant and exciting work-experience placements, designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to progress into employment.

To complete this course, you will be required to use a variety of skills working both in groups and individually. You’ll work on a series of individual and group assignments that will cover subjects such as:

  • Introduction to design and research skills in creative media production
  • Introduction to professional practice in creative media production

  • Characteristics and contexts in media and communication
  • Engaging with an audience in creative media production
  • Preparing for progression in creative media production
  • Specialist study in creative media production
  • Extended project in creative media production

This course is 100% coursework (there is no exam), featuring both written and practical assignments. This is internally assessed and externally moderated by UAL Awarding Body.

You need to have 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English and maths, with a keen interest and evidence in the subject (example of work).
