This course is for school leavers or for anybody currently working in accounts who does not hold an accounting qualification yet, or for anyone else wishing to change career into an accounting role.
This is an evening course.
What you'll learn
You will learn about the principles of bookkeeping, costing methods, communications and computerised accounting using Sage software.
You will gain your first professional AAT qualification.
On successful completion, you can then progress on to the AAT Accounting Level 3 Advanced Diploma. There are three levels to the AAT Accounting Qualification. You will spend about a year on each level, so if you start at Level 2, it will take you three years to become fully qualified. If you have previous experience, you could have certain exemptions, and qualify in two years or less.
How you'll learn and be assessed
This course will be delivered every other week.
Depending on the level you study, you will be learning in a classroom environment over one or two evenings a week. You are also expected to practice your learned skills at home or in your place of work.
You should spend three hours a week studying outside of class, for each learning and assessment area. Your study time will need to increase before assessments when you’re revising. Don’t forget to use all the study and membership support that is also offered by AAT, as well as from the course tutors.
AAT Level 2
Four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above including English and maths (English and maths should be a grade 4 or above) or a Level 1 AAT qualification.
The course fee includes tuition and exams, but you will have to purchase books from Kaplan which cost £113 and also AAT membership fees.
Final assessment is by examination only. There is no coursework to complete but you will be assessed in class periodically to establish understanding and learning.
