This training course prepares you for the work place. The high level of skills and knowledge gained expand from domestic work through to commercial plumbing. Topics: common plumbing processes, cold water, hot water, sanitation, central heating and drainage systems.
All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.
This course is aimed at those who have achieved the Plumbing (Performing Engineering Operations) Level 1/2 Certificate. You should have an interest in practical work along with the determination and persistence to succeed.
Very supportive staff assist with clear direction of industry standards and career prospects. This course is a mixture of theory and practical hands on.
How you'll learn and be assessed
Practical and theory lessons in the College’s workshops. Homework: Homework and self study will be set at tutors’ discretion.
Progression
Plumbing qualifications at Level 3 followed by HNC/D or professional courses in construction, available at the College.
Entry requirements
You should have achieved a Level 1 Plumbing qualification, plus Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 1 or above, or GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 (grade D) or above.
Additional information
The theory classes are formal lessons followed by BPEC online exams in stages. For practical work, overalls and protective footwear are required. It is highly recommended that students purchase books to assist in their studies – from a reading list provided at the start of the course.
