The T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction will develop your knowledge in a range of subjects relevant to the sector, including:

Science – a general understanding of scientific principles, their applications, interaction between them to meet the purpose of the built environment and how their performance in the building is measured.

Design – an understanding of the benefits of good design within budget, of good design to product performance, e.g. on budget, over specified, difficult to assemble/build.

Sustainability – an understanding of the importance of sustainability when planning and delivering a construction project, e.g. environmental protection, obligations under environmental legislation and lean construction, including reduce, repurpose and recycle.

Relationship management – provide knowledge and understanding of the various stakeholders with interest in construction projects, the need to collaborate and ways in which collaboration can be encouraged. The importance of customer service and teamwork.

Law – an understanding of the legal aspects of design, surveying and planning activities within the construction industry.

 

T Levels are a new 2-year qualification for students aged 16 to 19 in England who have finished their GCSEs. Each T Level is equivalent to three A levels.

In the second year, you will complete one of the following occupational specialisms:

  • Surveying and Design for Construction and the Built Environment
  • Civil Engineering

You’ll be able to put everything you have learnt into practice, with a substantial industry placement of around 45 days. You’ll be given an amazing opportunity to work with an employer while you study and gain invaluable experience, as well as key skills that employers are looking for.

This T Level will help you to develop the knowledge, attitude and practical skills to thrive in either the workplace or progress to further study.

  • T Levels have been designed in collaboration with employers and businesses, so that you will learn everything you need to prepare for the workplace.
  • They offer you more practical work experience and industry placement hours as part of your education than any other qualification currently available, except for apprenticeships.
  • T Levels help you to develop the knowledge, attitude and practical skills to thrive in either the workplace or progress to further study.

You could progress straight into a career in the construction sector as a Building Services Site Technician, Assistant Engineer or Construction Design Technician, or continue your studies with a degree or higher apprenticeship.

You will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English Language, maths and science for this T Level.
